Stone Masonry

Making Vision a Reality

When done correctly, Stone Masonry provides a strong and beautiful element to any construction project. It can be a great alternative to bricks and blocks and often adds a unique appeal. The skilled masons at Two Brothers Masonry understand how to arrange stones carefully in a polygonal pattern, binding them securely with mortar to create solid walls, foundations, and other structures.

Rubble Stone Masonry

These stones come in varying shapes and sizes with any sharp edges eliminated. There are several types available including Coursed stones, which are used more commonly for higher-end commercial and residential applications, Non-Coursed stones, which are used in lesser focal areas like foundations, garages, and walls, and Square stones, which are meant to be laid in different depths along straight cut walls.

Ashlar Stone Masonry

These stones are prepared for specific types of projects and applications, dressed to fit unique requirements. This method warrants a careful balance between unity and variety and must not become overly accurate with side and edges. Plus the height and length of the stones are measured within boundaries that help define the look of the patterns they create.  Depending on the manner of the stone dressing, a structure can appear rough, rocky, chamfered, or smooth, which can create quite different looks. Consequently, less mortar is used on these stones because of their more deliberate, square shape.
